Nonprofit Capacity Building: The Allstate Foundation Greater Good Nonprofit Leaders Program

To strengthen leadership in the nonprofit sector, The Allstate Foundation partnered with the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management's Center for Nonprofit Management in 2014 to launch the Greater Good Nonprofit Leaders Program.

Greater Good brings together emerging nonprofit leaders from across the country to engage in a unique leadership development program designed to transform their organizations, their communities, and the nonprofit sector as a whole. To date, 40 nonprofit leaders from the Classes of 2015 and 2016 have benefitted from Greater Good’s robust programming and used it to develop their organizations and the teams they lead. The Class of 2017 began their Greater Good experience in September 2016.

Highly motivated, mid-career nonprofit professionals who have demonstrated exceptional innovation and creativity in their leadership abilities are encouraged to join the Greater Good email list to receive updates on how to apply to be a part of the next Greater Good class in early 2017.

What makes Greater Good unique?

Throughout this year-long program, leaders experience four in-person academic sessions led by Kellogg faculty, complemented by one-on-one executive coaching and individual development opportunities. All program elements are customized to participants' needs based on data collected in a 360-degree assessment of each leader at the start of the program. The Greater Good program and related travel are funded by The Allstate Foundation and offered to participants at no cost to their organizations.

Who is an ideal Greater Good candidate?

Highly qualified candidates for Greater Good have:

  • Ten to 20 years of professional experience.
  • More than five years of experience in a leadership role.
  • At least three years of nonprofit sector experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to the nonprofit sector.

The Allstate Foundation is particularly interested in supporting a diverse range of leaders from mid-size organizations in need of additional resources to further develop their own leaders. Therefore, priority consideration is given to leaders from organizations with the following profiles:

  • Directly serving the community (i.e. social service, education, health, etc.)
  • Annual budgets between $3-10 million

Greater Good Class of 2017 Selected

The Allstate Foundation is pleased to congratulate the leaders selected for the Greater Good Class of 2017. These outstanding nonprofit leaders form a strong cohort working together from September 2016 – May 2017 to complete four in-person Greater Good sessions designed to increase their leadership acumen and management skills.
